Huntress Cabin

In the beginning, Huntress Cabin was called "Hunter's Cabin". It was one of the original "L'Episcopo family's cabin (aka "Uncle Bob's Cabin".

It was nearly a tear down, with ripped screens blowing in the wind, but we saw it's potential.

How it looked when we bought it. The chair and couch did not smell good.

Bedroom 2, closest to the bathroom. Note the laundry basket filled with "clean" folded laundry.

Bedroom 2, This is where the closet and entry door are now.

Main bedroom 1 (closest to the patio)

The kitchen before. There were lovely exploded cans of Chunky Soup, circa 1990!

Old wood stove

The bathroom, also the entry point for a resident opossum.

Once we removed the wood stove, we started pulling down the very mushy south wall

Demo underway, ceiling still up.

Taking the ceiling down

We did all the demo, and initially, we were going to try to save the ceiling boards, but they were sorely not to code, and so we took them down.

Huntress' porch before

Carpenter ant damage

The chimney outside was removed by us, brick by brick.

Mushy wall removed

Mushy wall gone

Post-demo. This is both bedrooms with no wall in between.

Under the plywood, we found beautiful Douglas fir flooring! We needed to save these...

We saved the cool fixtures, and put them back into Huntress

Then the rebuild started. For the cathedral ceilings, we had to add 2x8s to get the proper thickness for spray-foam insulation (to get it to code)

Sistered rafters over the door

Skylights in, as are turnbuckles, which we had to install to get it to code (they keep the building from pulling apart)

Huntress Cabin was our first cabin we renovated, so we have a huge soft spot for her. Click on the pictures below to see how far she has come!
